The meeting focused on discussing future cooperation orientations between the two universities based on the results of President Hoang Minh Son’s recent working trip to China. On this occasion, the delegation from Peking University also visited VNU’s campus in Hoa Lac.

Peking University President Gong Qihuang expressed his pleasure in visiting VNU Town in Hoa Lac and highly appreciated its green spaces, large-scale development, and strategic orientation. He emphasized that the frequent meetings between the two universities’ leaders demonstrate a strong commitment to strengthening the strategic cooperation which is especially meaningful as 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of Vietnam-China diplomatic relations and the Year of Vietnam-China Humanistic Exchange. According to President Gong Qihuang, these connections not only lay the foundation for joint initiatives by the two universities but also help deepen cooperation in education and training, in line with the bilateral relations in the new period.
He proposed that the two universities continue to promote cooperation in natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, engineering and technology, health sciences, and other areas of strength.
As VNU is planning to build a national key laboratory and Peking University is currently operating 22 key laboratories across such fields as basic sciences, energy, materials, electronics …, Peking University is in a position to share experience, provide technical support, and foster joint research collaborations to enhance the scientific and technological capacities of both institutions.
In addition to research cooperation, Peking University President Gong Qihuang suggested that the two universities soon implement joint-degree programs and expand English-taught courses and degree programs to attract Vietnamese undergraduates, graduates and doctoral students to Peking University. He also proposed organizing short-term summer programs for students, focusing on areas of growing interest such as artificial intelligence, social sciences and humanities, Chinese, Vietnamese; thereby creating a multidimensional academic experience.
Peking University expressed its desire to send more students to study and participate in exchanges at VNU in the near future, contributing to deepening educational cooperation between the two countries’ two leading universities.

VNU President Hoang Minh Son expressed his pleasure in welcoming the delegation from Peking University to VNU’s Hoa Lac campus.
He also expressed VNU’s desire to learn from Peking University’s experience in planning, designing, constructing, and operating modern university town campuses, especially the model of national-level and university-level key laboratories. VNU President Hoang Minh Son emphasized the importance of investing in modern equipment together with efficient operation to serve training and research, particularly in high-tech fields.
Regarding training cooperation, VNU President expressed his strong support for the proposal to implement joint-degree programs, noting that the two sides should prioritize piloting such programs at the postgraduate level before expanding them to other levels. He welcomed the idea of summer courses and expressed his hope that more students, scientists, and professors from Peking University would come to work, teach, and conduct research at VNU in the near future.
