According to the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam No. 47/2014/QH13, amended by Law No. 51/2019/QH14:
- International students studying in Vietnam must use a DH-coded visa (for study purposes).
- The maximum validity of a DH visa is 12 months, and it must remain valid for at least 30 days less than the passport’s remaining validity period.
- Before the visa expires, students must apply for an extension based on the duration confirmed by their host institution.
- Visa extensions are processed in accordance with the Government’s Decree No. 75/2020/NĐ-CP.
Important notes:
- A student visa (DH) may only be used for study purposes and cannot be unilaterally converted to a work visa or used for other purposes.
- If a student wishes to undertake a paid internship or work in Vietnam, they must comply with Decree No. 152/2020/NĐ-CP (on the management of foreign workers in Vietnam) and may only work after obtaining a work permit or a certificate of exemption (if eligible).
