The platform was developed under the EFF-R Patrimoine project, funded by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs through the French Embassy and the French Institute in Vietnam, in collaboration with VNU-USSH, the French School of Asian Studies (EFEO) and the Francophone University Association (AUF).
Following approximately one year of research, nearly 40 experts and around 100 students participated in surveying more than 100 historical and cultural sites across Hanoi. From these, 28 representative sites were selected for digital documentation, incorporating photographs, historical inscriptions, Sino-Nom materials, architectural drawings and videos.
The platform offers four thematic heritage routes exploring Thang Long’s Four Guardian Temples, Mother Goddess worship sites, communal houses dedicated to traditional craft founders, and pagodas associated with historical scholars and Buddhist monks.
Through interactive maps and QR codes installed at heritage sites, visitors can access multilingual information, images and research materials directly on their smartphones without downloading an application. The initiative makes Hanoi’s cultural heritage more accessible to both domestic and international visitors.

Pham Tuan Long, Director of Hanoi’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, welcomed the initiative as a practical contribution to preserving and promoting the capital’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage. He also stressed the importance of regularly updating digital content, maintaining the platform and encouraging community participation to ensure its long-term effectiveness.
Beyond tourism, the platform provides valuable resources for education and scientific research. Its digitized collection of historical inscriptions, architectural materials and cultural documentation can support academic studies, fieldwork and extracurricular learning activities.
The initiative also demonstrates how interdisciplinary research and digital technology can connect academic knowledge with public needs, enabling cultural heritage to be preserved, interpreted and shared in more accessible ways.
Through its active participation in the project, VNU-USSH continues to affirm its role in advancing humanities research, strengthening international academic cooperation and promoting the preservation and sustainable development of Vietnam’s cultural heritage.
