On August 9, VNU University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS) held the international conference “Vietnam’s diplomacy and international cooperation in the new era” on-site in Sunwah Hall here and on-line on Zoom Webinar.
This conference is among a series of precursors for the 7th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies (ICVS) co-organized by Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) and Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS). ICVS has been a critical forum where scholars, politicians, faculty, students and interested people share their research results, identify subsequent orientations for Vietnamese Studies, and contribute valuable policy recommendations to Vietnam. For these credits, ICVS has always benefited from close attention and high appreciations by top leaders of the country. Also, ICVS has always welcomed world-renown scholars on Vietnamese Studies, and today, we are again honored with the attendance of many among them.

The world and regional situation is undergoing rapid and complex changes, with intertwined opportunities and challenges that have profound and multidimensional impacts on all countries, including Vietnam. At the discussion session on “Vietnam’s Diplomacy: Proactive in the Face of Challenges in a Rapidly Changing World and Region,” chaired by Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, the speakers analyzed and clarified how, in such a complex context, Vietnam’s diplomacy must achieve strategic proactivity, effectively respond to evolving circumstances, and create favorable conditions for the cause of national construction and defense.
As a seasoned diplomat with extensive experience in all areas of Party diplomacy, State diplomacy, parliamentary diplomacy, and currently still actively engaged in people-to-people diplomacy, Ambassador Ton Nu Thi Ninh noted that Vietnam has integrated so deeply into the world that global challenges are also Vietnam’s challenges. Issues such as the world order, peace, prosperity, and development are matters that Vietnam cannot stand apart from. She emphasized the need to clearly identify the country’s position and strength, pinpointing advantages and weaknesses in order to respond proactively and create new opportunities.
Ambassador Doan Xuan Hung affirmed that the leadership of the Party, guided and inspired by Ho Chi Minh’s thought, has been a decisive factor behind Vietnam’s major diplomatic achievements over the years. The Party has identified international integration as a key strategy to consolidate political standing, promote economic development, ensure national security, and enhance the country’s influence on the world stage. Therefore, according to the Ambassador, strengthening external relations and international integration is an essential and ongoing mission.
