The GO-GN Workshop 2026, aiming to connect research and promote a global open education ecosystem, will be held over three days, from February 24-26, 2026, at HAN University of Applied Sciences, Nijmegen, Netherlands, as part of the Global OER Graduate Network (GO-GN) activities.

The GO-GN Workshop 2026 brought together 34 members of the global network, including researchers, scholars, and representatives from four regional centers: Kenya, Canada, Ibero-America, and Asia-Pacific (with Vietnam being a key member). The workshop lasted three days and focused on the following key topics:
- Research showcase, sharing doctoral dissertation progress, and in-depth academic discussions on: Open Educational Resources (OER), Open Pedagogy, Open Policy, Open AI, and the future of open education.
- Regional Hub Knowledge Exchange, focusing on: Developing open research communities; OER policies and infrastructure; Sustainability of regional hubs; and Evaluation and next-phase development planning.
- In-depth workshops on: Equity, diversity, and inclusion in open education; Open academic publishing; Participatory research methods (Photovoice); Open Educational Practices; and Discussion on the future of Open AI in education.

At the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Van Hung – Head of the Department of Information and Library Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH) presented a paper entitled “OER/OE Policies and Practices in Vietnam”, outlining the more than 20-year journey of developing open educational resources (OER) in Vietnam and the role of USSH in pioneering research to promote OER and open education in Vietnam. The presentation highlighted key policy milestones such as Decision 1117/QD-TTg (2023) on the OER model in higher education, the Higher Education Law 2025 (No. 125/2025/QH15), and the Draft Circular on OER development (expected 2026). Simultaneously, the presentation introduced the goal of building a national OER ecosystem through the National OER Portal, connecting universities and standardizing data and metadata, along with the results of empirical surveys from 60 higher education institutions.
The presentation generated significant academic discussion on policy advocacy strategies alongside community building, mechanisms to encourage faculty participation in OER development, and the proposed national OER ecosystem model. As a result, Vietnam was recognized as one of the countries in the Asia-Pacific region with a relatively clear, systematic, and sustainably oriented OER policy roadmap.
Previously, on December 1, 2025, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the GO-GN Asia-Pacific Hub jointly organized the GO-GN Asia Pacific 2025 Conference: Updating the Open Movement in Vietnam from a Research and Practice Perspective. The event brought together numerous scientists, technology experts, university lecturers, and representatives from international organizations. VNU-USSH participated in the GO-GN Asia-Pacific Hub as its first key member.
The Global OER Graduate Network is a global network supporting graduate students in the fields of open education and OER through international academic mentoring, research methodology workshops, publication support, and connections with regional hubs, contributing to the development of a cross-border open academic community. At this workshop, PhD candidate Dong Duc Hung (Faculty of Information and Library Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities) presented his research, demonstrating the effectiveness of this support model in enhancing research capacity, expanding collaboration, and promoting academic internationalization among Vietnamese graduate students.
