VNU HSB launches AI assistant to support businesses on their ESG journey

The Faculty of Management at the VNU School of Business and Management (HSB) has launched HSB-ESG, an AI-powered assistant designed to help businesses navigate ESG regulations, collect and manage data, and prepare sustainability reports in line with Vietnamese and international standards. The initiative reflects HSB’s efforts to translate research and management expertise into practical solutions for the business community.

HSB-ESG was introduced at the workshop “ESG in the AI Era,” organized by HSB in collaboration with TAS Consulting on September 12, 2026. The product was developed by faculty members and students from HSB’s Faculty of Management, with contributions from external experts and partners, including representatives from EY-Parthenon and Verysell.

At the workshop, Bui The Anh, Director at EY-Parthenon Vietnam, noted that ESG is increasingly moving beyond corporate social responsibility and reporting requirements to become closely connected with business strategy, risk management, access to capital and international competitiveness.

According to the speakers, AI can play a broader role in this transformation. Beyond assisting with report writing, AI can be applied throughout the ESG value chain, including data collection and standardization, carbon-emissions calculations, energy management, risk identification, reporting and information verification. More advanced applications can support climate-risk forecasting, supplier-risk identification, greenwashing detection and energy optimization.

Against this backdrop, HSB-ESG was developed to address practical challenges faced by businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, which often lack specialized ESG personnel, sufficiently digitalized data systems or the resources to access professional consulting services.

The AI assistant enables users to search ESG regulations in Vietnamese and receive answers accompanied by referenced sources. It can support materiality assessments and ESG data collection, as well as the preparation and review of sustainability reports with reference to frameworks and standards such as GRI, SASB and IFRS S1–S2, together with relevant Vietnamese regulations. The tool can also provide guidance on ESG requirements in major markets, including the European Union, the United States, Japan and other Asian markets.

HSB-ESG is designed with three deployment models to meet different business needs. Small and medium-sized enterprises can use it as a stand-alone chatbot without immediately establishing a dedicated ESG team. ESG consulting, auditing and legal service providers can integrate the tool into their websites as a white-label widget, while large enterprises can connect it more deeply with ERP systems via API to support ESG management on a larger scale.

The solution is intended for a broad range of users, including businesses preparing for initial public offerings, exporters, listed companies, and ESG, finance and legal teams dealing regularly with sustainability-related requirements.

The launch of HSB-ESG marks another step in HSB’s approach of connecting knowledge, technology and business. By bringing together academic expertise, applied research and practical experience from enterprises and experts, HSB aims to turn research outcomes into solutions that support green transformation and sustainable development in the business community.
