At the invitation of VNU President Prof. Le Quan, Prof. Tang Jie – a leading scholar at Tsinghua University (China), renowned for his outstanding contributions in artificial intelligence, data mining, and social networks – will assume the role of Honorary Director of the Institute for Applied Artificial Intelligence in Sustainable Development under VNU High-Tech and Innovation Park.
The engagement of Prof. Tang Jie in VNU’s scientific activities serves as a clear testament to the effectiveness of the collaboration between VNU and Tsinghua University. With his extensive network and international reputation, he will act as a vital bridge in expanding cooperation between VNU and research organizations, scientific institutes in China, as well as global partners. Together with Tsinghua University, he will contribute to promoting joint research initiatives, particularly in the field of sustainable artificial intelligence (AI). Prof. Tang Jie is recognized as one of the world’s leading scientists in AI, especially in the areas of data mining, machine learning, social networks, and knowledge graphs. He is the “father” of the AMiner academic platform – a globally influential system attracting tens of millions of visits from over 220 countries and territories. In addition, he has spearheaded China’s large-scale AI projects such as the GLM-130B language model with 130 billion parameters and the trillion-parameter “Wudao” supermodel, further asserting China’s pioneering position in the AI era.

For his groundbreaking contributions, Prof. Tang Jie has been honored with numerous prestigious awards, including the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, the ACM KDD Test-of-Time Award, and the First Prize of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence. He is also recognized as an IEEE Fellow, ACM Fellow, and AAAI Fellow – distinguished titles that honor globally influential scholars.
Prof. Tang Jie, with his groundbreaking contributions in AI—particularly in data mining, machine learning, and social network research—will play a key role in shaping the strategic development of this field at VNU. His involvement is expected to help VNU build a sustainable AI research and application system serving strategic areas such as environmental protection, green economic development, healthcare, and smart cities.
