The 7th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies, themed “Vietnam: Sustainable Development in the New Rising Era” is not merely a regular academic event, but also a concrete action to realize the spirit of the Party’s Resolutions, connecting global knowledge and targeting the goal of sustainable national development by 2045.
First held in 1998, the International Conference on Vietnamese Studies was an academic initiative launched by Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), in collaboration with the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, relevant ministries, sectors, and international organizations. Over more than 25 years and through six successful editions, the Conference has become a prestigious national and international academic forum, gathering hundreds of scholars, experts, and policymakers from both Vietnam and abroad for sharing and disseminating knowledge, contributing to promoting the image of Vietnam to the world.

In 2025, the 7th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies takes place at a particularly significant moment as Vietnam enters a pivotal stage of development: reviewing 40 years of the Renovation process and preparing for the national development vision toward 2045. This is an opportunity for the academic community to reflect on the nation’s development journey while opening new approaches: Connecting knowledge - Linking actions - Shaping the future of Vietnamese Studies in the era of global integration.

Vice Chairman of Vietnam Association of Historical Sciences shared that: “We are creating a forum where scholars can present their latest research results on Vietnam, both in their specialist fields, such as History, Literature, Textual Studies, and Economics; and in interdisciplinary and regional studies. This is an opportunity for Vietnamese Studies scholars from all over the world to meet, exchange ideas, and thus, promoting Vietnamese Studies not only in Vietnam but also across the globe. Furthermore, we are deeply aware that this is also an opportunity to promote the image of Vietnam to the world through Vietnamese Studies researchers”.
This year’s Conference brings together hundreds of leading experts and scholars in Vietnamese Studies from renowned universities and research institutes around the world. It also welcomes the participation of representatives from diplomatic missions and international organizations such as UNESCO, UNDP, JICA, and KOICA - a testament to the growing global influence of Vietnamese Studies.
The event serves to connect more than 100 domestic training and research institutions with nearly 100 international institutes and centers, affirming Vietnam’s position as an emerging hub of knowledge in Southeast Asia.
Through seven thematic panels, hundreds of scientific reports, and thousands of contributions from scholars, businesses, and international organizations, the Conference aims to build interdisciplinary knowledge, integrating social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and technology to address key issues of sustainable development, including Green economic growth and climate change adaptation; National governance and digital transformation; Preservation and promotion of Vietnamese cultural values in the process of globalization; and Advancement of human security and sustainable community development.
From an academic perspective, the Conference contributes to systematizing and updating knowledge and research directions in Vietnamese Studies, shedding light on key issues concerning people, culture, environment, institutions, and national governance.
From a policy consulting perspective, the Conference serves as a national-level scientific advisory channel where academic insights are translated into practical solutions to inform policymaking and guide the country’s development process.

The recommendations from the Conference are expected to focus on several key areas: Improving institutional frameworks for sustainable development and digital transformation; Formulating cultural and educational policies as the foundation for human development in Vietnam; Strengthening national “soft power” and promoting Vietnam’s image globally; Consolidating human security, social welfare, and state governance capacity; and Fostering mechanisms that link science, enterprises, and localities in the process of sustainable development.
The reports and recommendations from the Conference will be compiled and submitted to the Party and State’s strategic policymaking bodies, serving as a valuable scientific resource for formulating national resolutions and development programs for the 2025–2035 period with a vision toward 2045. The Conference is not only a platform for knowledge exchange but also a strategic step affirming the vital role of Vietnamese Studies in the nation’s sustainable development and global integration.
For more than a quarter century, the International Conference on Vietnamese Studies has been and will continue to be a forum where knowledge converges and the values of Vietnam are shared with the world.
