The meeting was an important occasion to promote strategic cooperation between the two leading universities of Vietnam and China for concretizing the directions previously discussed by the two sides and presented in the cooperation agreement, opening up numerous opportunities for practical collaboration in education, science, and technology.
At the meeting, Tsinghua University President Li Luming briefed about the outstanding achievements of the Global MOOC and Online Education Alliance (GMA), initiated and coordinated by Tsinghua University since 2020. He announced that VNU has officially become a member of the Alliance and extended an invitation to VNU President Hoang Minh Son to attend the GMA New Member Announcement Ceremony, scheduled to take place in Mexico in December 2025. He also expressed his hope that VNU would actively contribute to the Alliance’s joint initiatives, particularly in the areas of innovative teaching and learning methods, digital education, and global human resources development in the era of artificial intelligence.
At the meeting, VNU President Hoang Minh Son expressed his deep impression of Tsinghua University’s achievements in technology transfer, the development of high-tech scientific products with practical applications, as well as its successful university–industry cooperation model and the innovation ecosystem represented by TusPark – Tus-Holdings. He hoped that Tsinghua University would strengthen experience-sharing in building and operating systems for the commercialization of scientific and technological products, as well as share its models for enterprise engagement and the establishment of research and development (R&D) centers within the university campus.
Expressing his delight that VNU has become a member of the GMA, VNU President Hoang Minh Son believed that through this alliance, VNU would have the opportunity to collaborate with leading universities and international education platforms, participate in joint teaching activities, enhance capacity building, exchange knowledge, and promote open educational initiatives.
Recalling the international conference titled “Vietnam-China Higher Education: Opportunities and Challenges in the 21st Century – The Era of Digital Intelligence” held at VNU in March 2025, the leaders of the two universities expressed their consensus and commitment to co-organize this event on an annual basis. VNU President Hoang Minh Son affirmed that the conference is an academic forum that highlights the leadership role of the two top universities of Vietnam and China, reflecting their national and international responsibilities in embracing digital transformation and artificial intelligence in higher education. He also proposed that distinguished scientists and experts from VNU and other Vietnamese institutions participate in the 2026 conference to be held at Tsinghua University.

During the meeting, both sides also discussed cooperation in research and the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare, education, and agriculture, as well as the strengthening of faculty and student exchanges. They further exchanged views on developing the Vietnam-China University Network, in which VNU and Tsinghua University would serve as founding members. The two universities agreed to jointly promote the formulation of a concrete action plan focusing on academic exchanges, sharing online educational resources, and collaborative research in priority areas such as AI, industrial robotics, next-generation telecommunications networks, and educational innovation.
