VNU President Hoang Minh Son presented each province with 1 billion VND to support the residents affected by the recent floods. This activity marks the beginning of VNU’s emergency relief program for the Central and Central Highlands provinces after the recent natural disasters.
In Dak Lak, the working delegation visited Mien Trung University of Civil Engineering – the institution assisting Dak Lak and Phu Yen provinces in conducting post-flood site assessments. At the university, scientists from both sides exchanged preliminary findings, shared data, and discussed initial assessments to ensure an objective and timely evaluation of the causes and consequences of the disaster. The delegation also delivered emergency relief packages directly to the residents in the severely affected areas.

During the survey, the delegation inspected the Song Ba Ha Hydropower Plant and the Dong Cam Irrigation Dam - two key water flow regulating structures in the locality. On-site observations showed that many hillside areas displayed signs of landslides following prolonged heavy rain; several locations had weakened soil and rock structures, posing risks of collapse. In the nearby residential areas, large volumes of mud and debris had flowed down, causing blockages, placing pressure on the drainage systems.
The delegation also surveyed a section of the North–South Expressway that had previously been deeply flooded. This area experienced significant changes in water flow due to the valley topography combined with persistent rainfall. The delegation experts noted that the site requires close monitoring of drainage capacity to prevent severe flooding if further extreme rainfall occurs.

VNU President Hoang Minh Son emphasized that VNU’s guiding principle is “accompanying – sharing – providing practical support”. VNU’s relief activities are organized in a concise manner to avoid creating additional pressure on the local authorities during their recovery efforts. He stressed that support must reach the right people, at the right time, and meet the right needs.
In Khanh Hoa, VNU President Hoang Minh Son expressed VNU community’s deep sympathy and solidarity toward the residents affected by the recent storms and floods in the province. He noted that the 1-billion-VND donation represents the heartfelt support of VNU’s staff and employees for the people of the Central and Central Highlands regions.
Assoc.Prof. Hoang Minh Son affirmed that, in addition to material assistance, VNU has the responsibility to accompany the province with its scientific expertise. VNU has a team of researchers specializing in disaster forecasting and assessment, and they are now in Khanh Hoa to survey several severely flooded locations. VNU hopes to work with the province to develop long-term and sustainable solutions for disaster response and risk reduction.
He emphasized that this is a practical activity that demonstrates VNU’s strong sense of social responsibility. In the time ahead, if the province requires technical support, VNU will promptly send its team of experts to provide assistance.
The VNU working delegation also conducted an on-site survey in Vinh Phuong Ward - an area that experienced 3-4 meters of flooding, and gave medicine and medical supplies to the ward’s healthcare facility. At the site, VNU experts recorded numerous landslide locations and areas of deep inundation, and will continue conducting follow-up analyses for supporting the province in forecasting, early warning, and proposing appropriate technical recommendations.
