11.Summary of the new findings of the thesis:
Firstly, the thesis defines the nature of inter-semiotic translation, distinguishing inter-semiotic translation from other types of translation, and claiming that inter-semiotic translation is a prospectively interdisciplinary approach to research many art types in general and the transformation between literature and films in particular.
Secondly, pointing out inter-cultural and inter-semiotic translation features from the works of F. Dostoevsky to the adapted films in terms of aesthetic images and narrative techniques through three Asian movies, which are different in culture.
Thirdly, identifying the factors that dominate directors' shifting strategies, namely cultural contexts and social issues, audience tastes, and the director's style. The translation mechanism is a free rewriting of source texts, with localization strategies and cultural negotiations.
Fourthly, proposing a study model of inter-culture and inter-semiotic translation operates based on the interaction of polyvalent parameters. This model can be applied to studies of translating works regardless of their genre and culture.
