Summary of the dissertation’s new findings:
The dissertation assessed the impacts of climate change and climate change vulnerability on various socio-economic sectors/groups for 05 provinces in the study area. Thereby determining the combined impacts of climate change on sustainable economic restructuring of the Southern Central Region;
The set of criteria for integration of climate change into the process of economic restructuring has been applied to the Southern Central region. This set of criteria is feasible, allowing quantification of the effectiveness of policies for economic restructuring in order to improve the efficiency of sustainable economic development for the study area in the context of climate change;
The dissertation proposed solutions for economic restructuring to ensure sustainable socio-economic development, respond to climate change for the study area.
Practical applicability, if any:
In addition to proposing necessary solutions for transition of economic structure in the Southern Central region, “Criteria for integration of climate change into the process of economic restructuring” has been proposed. This creates a scientific basis for quantitative assessment of policies which integrate climate change into economic restructuring and the impacts of those policies to the Central, local governments (provincial level) in responding to climate change.
Further research directions, if any:
The set of criteria serves as the scientific basis for quantifying the effectiveness of of policies for economic restructuring. This set of criteria needs to be further researched, developed to be the basis for determining a final index to help decision makers to select the optimal solutions for economic restructuring. However, to develop this index requires further research with additional resources, cooperation with experts from various fields, sectors ... in the coming time.
The results of the thesis can be transferred to provinces in the Southern Central region to assist the development of strategies, policies related to economic restructuring and responding to climate change.
