11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:
- Proposed a multitask learning method for improving the accuracy of collaborative filtering when data are sparse. The proposed method uses boosted decision stumps with modifications to handle multiple classification tasks simultaneously. By solving multiple learning tasks together, the method allows sharing information between tasks to alleviate the effect of data sparsity.
- Proposed a new graph-based recommendation method that combines collaborative and content-based filtering. The method allows selecting personalized content features, which are specific for each user, before performing collaborative filtering methods. The personalization leads to improved prediction accuracy over conventional graph-based methods.
- Building a film recommendation system based on the proposed graph model. The film recommendation system has fully functions of recommender systems and presented good recommendation results.
