VNU-IS: Strengthening cooperation with Canadian universities

On February 19, 2025, representatives from the Embassy and Consulate General of Canada in Vietnam visited and held working discussions at the International School, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Consulate General of Canada in Vietnam expressed great pleasure in visiting and working with the International School. Through the meeting, the delegation gained insight into the school’s priorities and areas of interest, which will help in connecting it with suitable Canadian partners. The representatives noted that educational cooperation between Vietnam and Canada has flourished in recent years, with many Vietnamese universities establishing joint training programs with Canadian universities.

The delegation also introduced the SEED scholarship program, a Canadian government-funded academic exchange initiative for Southeast Asian students. Under this program, ASEAN students pursuing short-term studies or research at Canadian universities receive financial support for tuition, living expenses, and travel for one to two semesters. The delegation affirmed that they would carefully consider the school’s aspirations and introduce suitable Canadian universities for collaboration.

Representative from VNU International School expressed his hope that Canada would provide scholarship for its students as well as send educational experts to work and exchange experiences, particularly in the field of education quality accreditation. Additionally, VNU International School seeks assistance in organizing seminars, experience-sharing sessions, and training programs for educational management personnel.

As one of the top destinations for international students, Canada boasts a high-quality education system. It is among the top three countries globally in terms of per capita investment in education. The country offers both public and private education systems, with the majority of universities being public institutions, ensuring consistently high educational standards nationwide.

In 2017, the Government of Canada announced the Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) program to provide opportunities for students from ASEAN member states to conduct short-term study or research in Canadian post-secondary institutions in areas that contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
