VNU’s faculty and staff are trained in first aid

First aid and initial handling of emergency situations play a crucial role in saving lives and providing effective treatment to patients. The University of Medicine and Pharmacy has organized training sessions on common first aid skills for faculty and students of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU).

From September 8 to 10, VNU University of Medicine and Pharmacy organized training sessions on common first aid skills for faculty and students of three universities under VNU, including VNU University of Foreign Languages and International Studies, VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and VNU University of Economics and Business.

The program was directly instructed by faculty members of the Department of Emergency Medicine, VNU University of Medicine and Pharmacy. This was an opportunity for participants to raise awareness, practice skills, and become more proactive in protecting their own health and providing timely support to those around them.

In daily life, first aid skills are among the most important yet often lacking and unfamiliar to many people. Without basic knowledge and skills, we may struggle to respond appropriately in emergency situations, which could even directly affect the lives of our loved ones or those around us.

Once trained, even without in-depth expertise, participants can remain calm and provide initial care, while those who have never learned first aid skills often resort to calling for medical help, which may not always arrive in time. In reality, cases of strokes and sudden deaths are increasingly common, and even trending younger, which highlights the urgent need to widely promote first aid skills.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Anh Thu, Vice Rector of VNU University of Medicine and Pharmacy believed that alongside educational work, student health care is always a top priority. This is a great opportunity for both faculty and students to learn and practice, so they are ready to handle emergency situations.

According to the plan, after the training session, the universities will select a number of faculty members and students to form a rapid response team. This will be the core force, capable of providing timely support in the event of health emergencies, while also spreading awareness of proactive health protection within the educational community," emphasized Dr. Nguyen Thi Anh Thu.

During the training session, the leadership of the Institute of Applied Medical Technology presented each university with a first aid kit. This practical gift not only directly supports the training but also serves as a useful resource for health care and emergency response situations at the university.
