Addressing the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long highly appreciated the role of VNU and VASS in organizing this highly significant international academic forum.

He affirmed that Vietnamese Studies is an interdisciplinary field within the social sciences and humanities, playing an important role in providing a comprehensive understanding of Vietnam’s land and people. It also serves as a bridge of knowledge, fostering mutual understanding, solidarity, and cooperation for peace and sustainable development.

The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged the valuable contributions of both domestic and international scholars to the research and promotion of Vietnam’s image. He also emphasized the remarkable achievements the country has attained over the 40 years of Renovation with economic growth exceeding 8%, a GDP scale of USD 510 billion, stable socio-political conditions, firm national defense and security, and deep, effective international integration.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long stressed that, entering the new era, Vietnam aims to become an industrially modern developing nation with upper-middle income by 2030 and a high-income developed nation by 2045. The Government looks forward to continued support and strategic advice from the global community of Vietnamese Studies scholars for sustainable, inclusive, and human-centered development policy planning.

He requested the Conference Organizing Committee to study the presentations thoroughly and compile policy recommendations from the participating scholars, and translate them into concrete policies to effectively serve the country’s development in the new period.

Delivering the conference opening speech, VNU President Hoang Minh Son stated that, with VNU’s collaboration with VASS over the past 25 years, the International Conference on Vietnamese Studies has become a prestigious international academic brand — a symbol of intellect, dialogue, and global cooperation.

He emphasized that, in a world undergoing profound transformation filled with both opportunities and challenges, knowledge and innovation have become the central driving forces of national development. Vietnam is entering a new phase of growth guided by the strategic vision of the Communist Party and the State, with a comprehensive implementation of breakthrough resolutions on the development of intellectual resources, science and technology, education and training, and innovation. In this dynamic context, Vietnamese Studies is not only a field of research about Vietnam’s land and people but also a means of identifying national identity, enhancing soft power, and connecting the social sciences and humanities with technology, economics, and modern governance.

He stressed that the Conference represents both an intellectual mission and a responsibility of a leading research university to connect knowledge, provide policy advice, and promote Vietnam’s values to the world. VNU President Hoang Minh Son affirmed that the theme “Vietnam: Sustainable Development in the New Rising Era” reflects the Vietnamese nation’s aspiration to rise, striving toward the goal of rapid, sustainable, and happy development by 2045.

He expressed his confidence that from this forum, scientific knowledge, policy recommendations, and cooperative initiatives would continue to be disseminated, contributing to realizing the vision of a sustainable, prosperous, and humanistic Vietnam in the new era.

In addition, he extended his deep gratitude to the Party, the State, and the Government for their attention and support; to domestic and international partners for their collaboration; and to the Vietnamese and global academic communities for their dedication to Vietnamese Studies - a field that continues to grow and play an essential role in shaping Vietnam’s national development strategies through the power of knowledge.

Following the opening session, the Conference proceeded with three plenary sessions, featuring 20 outstanding research papers presented by leading scholars from more than 20 countries and territories. These studies focused on clarifying the key issues facing Vietnam’s sustainable development, international integration, and the renewal of its growth model.
