Dr. Dam Minh Thuy awarded the Academic Palms by the Government of the French Republic

On March 13, 2026, at the reception hall of the Embassy of France, French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet, on behalf of the Government of the French Republic, presented the Order of the Academic Palms to Dr. Dam Minh Thuy, Head of the Faculty of French Language and Culture, VNU University of Languages and International Studies.

The Order of the Academic Palms is one of the most prestigious and oldest honors of the French Republic in the fields of education and culture. It was established in 1808 by Emperor Napoleon I, originally as a distinction awarded to outstanding members of the University of France.

Over more than two centuries, the Order of the Academic Palms has come to recognize scholars, educators, and individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the advancement of knowledge and education, as well as to the promotion of the French language and Francophone culture around the world.

This prestigious decoration awarded to Dr. Dam Minh Thuy is not only a sincere recognition by the Government of France of her sustained contributions to French-language education in Vietnam, but also a great source of pride for the Faculty of French Language and Culture, VNU University of Languages and International Studies and the broader Francophone community in Vietnam.

At the ceremony, Ambassador Olivier Brochet highly appreciated Dr. Dam Minh Thuy’s contributions to the cooperative relationship between France and Vietnam, particularly in the fields of culture and education. Behind this prestigious decoration lies a long journey marked by her dedication, passion, and perseverance in teaching the French language and promoting the values of the Francophone community. The Ambassador expressed his confidence that in the coming years, Dr. Dam Minh Thuy will continue to make even more significant contributions to further strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

After graduating with a degree in French Language Teacher Education from the University of Languages and International Studies in 1999, Dr. Dam Minh Thuy continued her academic path by earning a Master’s degree in French Language from ULIS in 2004 and successfully defending her doctoral dissertation at the University of Picardie Jules Verne (France) in 2015.

From the early stages of her career, she chose to dedicate herself to the Faculty of French Language and Culture at VNU ULIS, where she began working in 2000 as a lecturer of French. In addition to her teaching responsibilities at ULIS, she has also contributed her expertise to several reputable training institutions and international organizations, including the French Institute in Vietnam. With strong expertise in French language teaching and intercultural communication, Dr. Dam Minh Thuy has consistently engaged in research, innovated teaching methodologies, and participated in academic activities both nationally and internationally - particularly in approaches such as integrated skills instruction, intercultural teaching, and project-based learning in French language education.
