VJU students gain more internship opportunities at Japanese semiconductor company Shiima Electronics

On March 16, VNU Vietnam Japan University (VJU) and Shiima Electronics officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to expand internship opportunities for students. The agreement was signed by Prof. Furuta Motoo and Mr. Tomonori Ojima, President of Shiima Electronics, representing the two sides.

Under the agreement, one of the key areas of cooperation is to facilitate short-term internship opportunities for students, particularly those enrolled in the Bachelor’s Program in Japanese Studies (BJS) and the Engineer’s Program in Semiconductor Chip Technology (ESCT). Prof. Furuta expressed his appreciation for the company’s collaboration, emphasizing that connecting students with industry is an important part of VJU’s educational approach as the University pursues a philosophy of sustainable development.

“We hope that today’s Memorandum of Understanding will serve as a foundation for deeper and more sustainable cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in the future,” Prof. Furuta said.

Shiima Electronics is headquartered and operates its manufacturing facilities in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. The company carries out an integrated process ranging from technology development to assembly, manufacturing, evaluation, and testing in the back-end stage of semiconductor production. It currently owns and develops more than 200 devices for semiconductor testing, performance evaluation, and assembly, while expanding its business globally, including in Vietnam.

Through this partnership, students will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in a professional and technologically advanced environment. Internship participants will be able to observe real production processes, learn about quality management systems, and develop professional skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and communication in an international workplace. The program is also expected to strengthen students’ understanding of Japan’s industrial culture and working style.

Representatives from both sides expressed confidence that the collaboration will contribute to building a high-quality workforce for the semiconductor industry and further promote academic–industry cooperation between Vietnam and Japan. The initiative also reflects VJU’s commitment to enhancing experiential learning opportunities and preparing graduates with the knowledge, skills, and global mindset needed to succeed in rapidly developing technology sectors. This cooperation also strengthens academic–industry linkages and contributes to the long-term development of high-quality semiconductor human resources in Vietnam.
