A contestant from VNU HUS High School for Gifted Students wins bronze medal at the 2024 Asian Physics Olympiad

All eight students of the Vietnamese national team competing in the 2024 Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) won medals, including one gold, one silver and six bronze.

Nguyen Nhat Minh, a 12th grader from VNU HUS High School for Gifted Students won a bronze medal.

The gold medal went to Than The Cong from Bac Giang High School for the Gifted in Bac Giang Province.

The silver medal was awarded to Ha Duyen Phuc from Lam Son High School for the Gifted in Thanh Hoa Province.

Bronze medals were awarded to Nguyen Nhat Minh from High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, Việt Nam National University, Hanoi; Nguyen Thanh Duy from Tran Phu High School for the Gifted in Hai Phong City; Truong Phi Hung from Bac Giang High School for the Gifted; Nguyen The Quan from Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in Nghe An Province and Hoang Tuan Kiet and Trang Vu Le Hoang, both from Lam Son High School for the Gifted in Thanh Hoa Province.

The 24th APhO, held from June 3 to 10 in Malaysia, drawing the participation of 208 contestants from 27 countries and territories.

Contestants underwent two days of examinations, each lasting five hours.

This year's theoretical test was based on modern and practical applications of physics, such as fountains, fibre optics, and research results published in the renowned journal Nature on astrophysics.

The experimental part involved experiments with gyroscopes, highlighting their practical applications in precise positioning for maritime aviation and self-balancing devices.

The Ministry of Education and Training praised the team’s performance, highlighting Vietnam’s continued success at the APhO.

Vietnam first participated in 2000, with its best result in 2018, winning four gold medals.
