Present at the ceremony were the State Vice-President, Nguyen Thi Doan; Prof.Dr Bui Van Ca - Deputy minister of the Ministry of Education and Training; Mr. Franck Pezza – the representative of Wallonie-Bruxelles delegation, the head of Ambassadors; Mrs. Anissa Barrak – area manager of Francophone; and many other Francophone Ambassadors, the head of affiliated universities of AUF in Asia – Pacific. Prof.Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan – VNU President also attended the ceremony and made a speech.
AUF established Asia – Pacific office in Vietnam in 1993 with 72 universities from Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, China, Thailand, and Pacific, Vanuatu… AUF office was placed at 21 Le Thanh Tong, one of the VNU headquarter. AUF has supported Vietnamese members in scholarships for teachers and students, in scientific activities
State Vice-President, Nguyen Thi Doanhighly appreciates the AUF role: “With the slogan “equalitarian, supplementation, solidarity” and “different acquirement, peaceful access”, Francophone has attracted nations, people to create an active, various and solidary Francophone family.

The relationship between Vietnam and Francophone is becoming closer. The Francophone summit in Hanoi in 1997 was the first summit organized in Asia. This summit marks an important trasition about the Francophone institution. Vietnam has contributed to the recovery of Francophone in Asia – Pacific.
At the conference, Prof.Dr Mai Trong Nhuan stresses the important role of AUF in the process to change undergraduate education into the main issue of Francophone. In the globalization background, the cooperation among universities through the teachers and students exchange activities becomes extremely essential to promote the internationalization process. VNU, one of the core universities in Vietnam always highly appreciates the international cooperation, especially with the Francophone nations. A lot of training and studying programs have conducted with a large number of students and teachers have chance to study in some developed countries. This is the very important source for VNU to develop into studying orientation.

Prof.Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan expresses his desire that AUF can extend its role to VNU affiliated universities, concentrate on the university management, and highly appreciate the human resource with high quality to enhance the competition among affiliated universities, contribute to the socioeconomic development.
On the occasion, Faculty of Psychology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities also organized an AUF 50-year ceremony from September 12 to 15. This program was for students who study French as well as for students from all Hanoi Universities such as University of Science, Foreign Trade university, faculty of French (University of Language and International studies, VNU)… There were many activities including art exhibition, film show…
