Previously, VNU Journal of Science: Advanced Materials and Devices (JSAMD) became the first Vietnamese scientific journal listed by Scimago among the most prestigious journals of science (list of Q1 journals) in Composite Materials and Magnetic, Electronic and Optical Materials. JSAMD was also featured among Q2 journals in Materials Science and Biomaterials. Thus, this is the first time a Vietnamese scientific journal has been listed in the top 25% of the most prestigious scientific journals. The 2020 Impact Factor (for 2019 results) of JSAMD - IF= 3.783, recently announced by Web of Science – Clarivate, was one of the factors for upgrading JSAMD.

In the coming times, VNU Journal of Science is planning to build and develop a number of international standard.
The ACI, a common database for the entire ASEAN region, links the National Citation Index (NCI) databases of the ASEAN member countries with international databases such as WoS or Scopus. Established in 2011, to date, the ACI database has included more than 73,000 articles. The aim of the ACI is to gather scientific publications of its member countries to share the region’s research results with the world, and at the same time, act as a bridge to bring ASEAN scientific works into the ISI and Scopus databases. Therefore, the ACI's selection standards are internationally standardized.
To be included in the ACI database, scientific journals must meet international level standards including 6 first round criteria and 9 second round criteria; namely persuasiveness of editorial policy; blind review; geographical diversity of editorial board members; geographical diversity of authors; academic contributions to the journal's research area; abstract clarity; quality and relevance of articles to the purpose and scope of the journal's content; no delay in publication; quality of the journal's website, conformity of the journal’s website in English with international standards; the journal’s presence in national and international citation databases; the journal’s online article receiving and processing system.
