ULISxSCU Season 7 (Phase 2) Community Service Learning Program Concludes with a Meaningful Closing Ceremony

On July 10, 2026, the closing ceremony for Season 7 (Phase 2) of the ULISxSCU International Community Service Learning Program was held at the first-floor auditorium of the Sunwah Building, University of Languages and International Studies - Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS–VNU). The program is a collaborative initiative between ULIS–VNU and Soochow University (SCU, Taiwan), implemented in Ta Van Commune, Sa Pa Town, Lao Cai Province, from 28 June to 3 July 2026.

The ceremony was conducted in a hybrid format, bringing together representatives of the university leadership, faculty members, and students from both institutions. The event began with networking activities and cultural performances, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that strengthened the connection among participants.

A highlight of the ceremony was the recap video, which revisited the six-day Community Service Learning journey in Ta Van through a wide range of meaningful activities, including English classes for local children and residents, cultural exchange programs, career orientation sessions, experiential workshops, and field-based learning activities for the Tour Guide English class. These memorable moments vividly reflected the participants' sense of responsibility, the spirit of international collaboration, and the core values of the Service Learning model embraced by the program.

During the project review session, representatives from ULIS–VNU and Soochow University reflected on the implementation of the project, evaluated the achievements of Season 7, and acknowledged the dedicated efforts of faculty members, students, and local partners. Both universities reaffirmed that the program not only generated meaningful benefits for the Ta Van community but also provided students with valuable opportunities to apply academic knowledge in real-life contexts, strengthen their professional competencies, develop teamwork and intercultural communication skills, and cultivate a strong sense of social responsibility through the Service Learning approach.

In addition to reviewing the project's achievements, the Organizing Committee expressed its sincere appreciation to JIN SHUN ENGINEERING VIỆT NAM CO., LTD. for its generous support throughout Season 7. Through the company's sponsorship, the project received 30 cartons of instant noodles, 10 cartons of biscuits, 20 cartons of milk, and 80 sets of notebooks and school supplies. These donations contributed to improving meals for children in Ta Van and were also presented to learners of the Tour Guide English class, encouraging their learning journey while further promoting the humanitarian values of the program.

The event continued with a reflection and evaluation session involving faculty members, students, and the Organizing Committee. Participants shared valuable experiences, identified practical lessons learned, and proposed ideas for further improving the Community Service Learning model in future seasons. The postcard-writing activity also provided a meaningful opportunity for participants to capture their reflections and emotions after the journey, highlighting their personal growth and the lasting impact of working alongside the local community.

A Gallery Walk featuring photographs, learning products, and project materials enabled participants to revisit the entire journey from the preparation stage to the implementation of activities in Ta Van. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates of participation, recognizing the commitment, contributions, and dedication of all students throughout the project.

The closing ceremony of Season 7 marked not only the completion of a meaningful Community Service Learning journey but also reaffirmed the effectiveness of the international partnership between ULIS and SCU in integrating academic learning with community engagement. The achievements of this season will serve as a solid foundation for the continued development of the program, further promoting the spirit of Service Learning and advancing sustainable values in higher education.
