VNU and Lomonosov Moscow State University collaborate on scientific research and joint degree programs

On May 13, 2025, during his visit to Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) - Russia’s most prestigious university, a symbol of the country’s academic excellence, VNU President Prof. Le Quan and MSU President Prof. Academician Victor Antonovich Sadovnichy, signed a cooperation agreement between the two institutions.

Under the cooperation agreement, VNU and MSU agreed to collaborate in several key areas, including exchange of staff, faculty members, and researchers to participate in conferences, symposiums, and joint research activities; development of joint training programs, including dual-degree programs at various levels; exchange of academic materials and scientific publications to support collaborative teaching and research; student exchange programs, internships, and experiential learning activities for learners from both institutions, etc.

Speaking at the meeting, VNU President Prof. Le Quan emphasized that as Vietnam’s leading university, VNU is firmly committed to its mission of training high-quality human resources, conducting cutting-edge scientific research, and fostering international cooperation. Throughout its development, VNU has always highly valued its traditional, friendly, and productive relationships with Russian partners, among these, MSU holds an especially important and distinguished position.

The partnership between VNU and MSU, built through numerous joint achievements over the years, from academic exchanges, participation in international conferences, and educational programs to collaborative research projects, has a long-standing and solid foundation. A particularly notable milestone in this relationship was VNU awarding an Honorary Doctorate to Academician Viktor Sadovnichy, in recognition of his significant contributions to science, education, and the strengthening of Vietnam–Russia friendship.

In the context of rapid digital transformation and deep global integration, VNU has been entrusted with the national responsibility of training a highly qualified intellectual workforce, serving as a core force in the country's innovation ecosystem. VNU is actively implementing elite education programs in interdisciplinary fields with technology-integrated curricula designed in response to the demands of the global labor market. With strong foundations in fundamental sciences and a team of leading experts, VNU is now rolling out comprehensive training programs in microelectronics engineering, semiconductor materials, integrated circuit design, and artificial intelligence, aiming at establishing itself as a national center for semiconductor research and training.

Noting the many similarities between VNU and MSU as national, multidisciplinary universities receiving strategic support from their respective governments, Prof. Le Quan expressed his confidence in the vast potential for expanded cooperation. He proposed that the two institutions focus on nurturing and developing young talents in both countries, while also enhancing joint scientific research, especially in areas of mutual interest and expertise, such as basic sciences, emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, quantum technology, semiconductor materials, and medical research. He also hoped that MSU would support the exchange and professional development of VNU’s young scientists through training and collaboration initiatives.

Introducing MSU, Prof. Academician Victor Antonovich Sadovnichy expressed his honor and delight in establishing cooperative ties with Vietnam’s leading educational institutions, particularly with VNU. He affirmed MSU’s readiness to expand collaborative activities with VNU and hoped that more students, postgraduates, and staff from VNU would come to study, exchange, and engage in academic and cultural interaction at MSU. He also expressed his expectation that VNU and other Vietnamese universities would continue to play an increasingly prominent role in the Vietnam - Russia University Rectors’ Forum, demonstrating leadership and social responsibility within the international higher education community.

Fully agreeing to Prof. Le Quan’s cooperation proposals, Prof. Sadovnichy suggested that beyond key areas such as semiconductors, quantum technology, and artificial intelligence, the two universities should also explore collaboration in medicine, economics, and social sciences and humanities.

During the meeting, the leadership of both universities also discussed the proposal to establish a strategic alliance of leading universities from Vietnam and the Russian Federation, including VNU, Hanoi; VNU, Ho Chi Minh City; Lomonosov Moscow State University, and Saint Petersburg State University.
