A student from VNU HUS High School for Gifted students won a silver medal at 2025 International Physics Olympiad

All five members of Vietnam’s team won medals at the 55th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2025) in France, placing Vietnam among the top 10 highest-scoring delegations globally, comprising one gold and four silver medals, the Ministry of Education and Training announced on July 24.

The only gold medal went to Nguyen The Quan from Phan Boi Chau High School for Gifted Students in the southern province of Nghe An.

Meanwhile, four silver medals were taken by Ly Ba Khoi and Truong Duc Dung from the High School for Gifted Students, Hanoi University of Science, Vietnam National University; Nguyen Cong Vinh from Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted in the northern province of Bac Ninh; and Tran Le Thien Nhan from Quoc Hoc – Hue High School for the Gifted in Hue City.

The result continues Vietnam’s strong record at international academic competitions and affirms the country’s effective approach to identifying and nurturing gifted students, said the Ministry of Education and Training.

IPhO 2025 took place in France from July 17 to 25, gathering 406 contestants from 94 countries and territories, including five observer teams. The competition featured two exam days - one for theoretical physics and the other for experimental tasks, each lasting five hours.

The closing ceremony and official results announcement will be broadcast live at 9:00 p.m. (local time) on July 24 via the official IPhO 2025 YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@InternationalPhysicsOlympiad25.

Vienam first participated in the IPhO in 1981, with modest results in the early years. Since 2001, the country’s performance has improved markedly.

Vietnam’s best results came in 2008 and 2017, with four gold medals each year. In 2024, the national team won two gold and three silver medals.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, this year’s achievement continues a strong track record for Việt Nam at international and regional Olympiads in recent years, demonstrating the quality of the national education system and policy effectiveness in identifying and nurturing talents.
