General Secretary To Lam highly appreciated the theme of the 7th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies: “Vietnam: Sustainable Development in the New Era”

Within the framework of the 7th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies, on October 26, 2025, at the Headquarters of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, General Secretary To Lam received a delegation of domestic and international scholars and scientists participating in the conference.

The reception took place in a respectful, cordial, and open atmosphere, reflecting the deep attention of the Party and State leaders to Vietnamese Studies, as well as to the broader cause of scientific, educational, and innovative development in the new era.

Attending the meeting were nearly 40 distinguished Vietnamese Studies scholars, representing over 500 scientists from more than 30 countries and territories.

This event held special significance, demonstrating the profound interest of the Party and State leadership in Vietnamese Studies in particular and in the advancement of science, technology, education, and innovation in general.

Addressing the meeting, VNU President Assoc.Prof.Dr. Hoang Minh Son, on behalf of the Conference Organizing Committee and the global community of Vietnamese Studies scholars, expressed his deep gratitude to General Secretary To Lam for taking the time to receive the delegation.

He noted that the 7th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies is the largest global scientific forum on Vietnam, bringing together 1,200 scholars from over 30 countries and territories, as well as from international organizations, with 500 on-site participants. This year’s Conference not only discussed in-depth topics on culture, socio-economic development, natural resources, education, integration, and national governance, but also focused on policy consultation for the Party and the State of Vietnam, contributing to the realization of the country’s aspiration for rapid and sustainable development in the new era.

The Conference is recognized as a prestigious global scientific forum on Vietnamese Studies, held every four years since 1998, serving as a platform for knowledge sharing, policy consultation, and the promotion of Vietnam’s land and people. VNU and the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) are currently compiling key proposals and recommendations from the Conference to report to the General Secretary and Party leaders.

VNU President Hoang Minh Son expressed his strong belief that the direct attention of General Secretary To Lam would serve as a great source of encouragement and inspiration, creating new momentum for the growth of the global Vietnamese Studies network.

Addressing the meeting, Party General Secretary To Lam expressed his delight at meeting domestic and international scientists and scholars attending the 7th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies, and extended his sincere thanks to the delegates for their affection for and deep interest in Vietnam.

The General Secretary emphasized that the Conference is a scientific event of profound academic, political, and diplomatic significance, reflecting the scope and influence of Vietnamese Studies - a field that connects knowledge, culture, history, and the Vietnamese people with the world. The Conference has brought together a large number of leading scholars, demonstrating Vietnam’s growing stature within the international academic community, while also affirming the crucial role of VNU and VASS in knowledge creation and national policy consultation.

The General Secretary affirmed that the conference’s theme "Vietnam: Sustainable Development in the New Rising Era” posed several questions vital to Vietnam today: How can we ensure rapid national development while maintaining political and social stability? How can we achieve economic growth without sacrificing social justice? How can we modernize the country without harming the ecological environment and the cultural and moral values of the Vietnamese people? And, how can we integrate into the global political, economic, and civilizational systems while preserving our national identity so that the Socialist Republic of Vietnam can stand proudly alongside the world’s great powers?”

According to the General Secretary, the Party and the State of Vietnam have always identified science, technology, education, and training as top national priorities - the foundation and key driving forces for sustainable development. Vietnam is currently implementing a number of major policies and resolutions aimed at realizing the goal of becoming a developed, high-income nation by 2045, steadily moving toward a strong, prosperous, and happy Vietnam.

The Party General Secretary  underscored that Vietnam’s development strategy rests on the following three closely connected pillars:

The first pillar is the national institutional, political and governance development oriented towards strategic autonomy, modernity, transparency, integrity, effectiveness and efficiency; and “building a socialist rule-of-law state of the people, by the people, and for the people” - a developmental State.

The second pillar is comprehensive human development in Vietnam; and Vietnam’s most valuable resource is its 106 million people – an industrious, creative, patriotic, community-minded, eager to learn, and resilient in the face of hardship community.

The third pillar is the development of a green, circular, knowledge-based, and digital economy linked with science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation. Notably, sustainable development must not be viewed solely in economic or environmental terms, but also as a matter of culture, society, humanity, and ethics.

General Secretary To Lam expressed his support for the initiative of VNU and VASS to vigorously promote the development of Vietnamese Studies not only within Vietnam but also globally by connecting domestic and international Vietnamese Studies scholars, thereby helping the world gain a deeper understanding of the country. The General Secretary agreed that the International Conference on Vietnamese Studies should be held more frequently, both in Vietnam and abroad, and a Vietnam Fund should be established later this year. He invited international researchers, doctoral students, and scientists to visit Vietnam more often, stay longer, work with Vietnamese colleagues on an equal footing, and listen to voices from the grassroots and local communities – rather than viewing Vietnam solely through aggregated statistics.

General Secretary Lam affirmed that Vietnam, with strong aspirations, the spirit of humility, open-mindedness and reception of scholars’ recommendations, always values dialogue, respects international laws, and appreciates effective and equitable multilateralism, aiming to build an independent, self-reliant, innovative, fast-growing, and sustainably developing Vietnam in the new era.

Addressing the meeting, distinguished scholars representing nearly 1,300 participants of the conference expressed their appreciation for the attention and support of General Secretary To Lam and the leadership of Vietnam’s Party and State for the global network of Vietnamese Studies experts.

They expressed their impression at Vietnam’s dynamic development and the vision and sound leadership of the Party, agreeing that the policies being actively implemented enjoy strong public consensus.

In an open and constructive atmosphere, the participants offered recommendations to promptly translate the Party’s newly adopted resolutions into practice. They also expressed their confidence that under Vietnam’s Party and State’s leadership, and with the unity and determination of the Vietnamese people, the country will soon achieve its comprehensive development goals.
