Strengthening Vietnam–France cooperation in training and research in modern medicine

On November 12, 2025, in Hanoi, a signing ceremony was held for a cooperation agreement between the University of Medicine and Pharmacy – VNU Hanoi, E Hospital, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, and the University Medical Center – Linh Đàm Campus, and Clermont-Auvergne University together with Clermont-Ferrand Teaching Hospital (French Republic).

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Le Ngoc Thanh, People’s Doctor and Rector of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, VNU Hanoi, emphasized that the signing of these cooperation agreements not only continues the long-standing tradition of medical collaboration between Vietnam and France but also expands it in a more in-depth and sustainable direction. The program aims to enhance the capacity of Vietnamese medical professionals, promote clinical training, foster bilateral research, and develop cooperation in smart hospital management and healthcare digital transformation—key areas of modern medicine.

In the coming period, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, VNU Hanoi, will work closely with its partners to strengthen the exchange of students and faculty, promote joint research projects and international publications, and move toward transferring advanced medical technologies.

Speaking at the ceremony, VNU Vice President Dao Thanh Truong emphasized that the signing of this agreement marks an important step forward in developing a model of in-depth international cooperation between training institutions and hospital systems both inside and outside Vietnam. The long-standing relationship between Hanoi and Clermont-Ferrand, as well as between leading experts of the two countries—especially in the field of cardiovascular surgery—originated in the late 20th century and has now been systematically and professionally inherited and expanded, with the participation of major frontline hospitals such as Viet Duc Hospital, E Hospital, and the University Medical Center – Linh Đàm Campus, together with renowned academic and clinical partners from France.

According to Vice President Dao Thanh Truong, this is not only an academic cooperation agreement but also a model of linkage across training, clinical practice, and interdisciplinary, cross-border research. This collaboration is all the more meaningful in the context of the Politburo’s Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024, which identifies science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as key drivers for rapid and sustainable national development.

The signing of the cooperation agreement between the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, its Vietnamese partner hospitals, and Clermont-Auvergne University together with Clermont-Ferrand Teaching Hospital marks a significant step forward in the internationalization of medical education and research at VNU Hanoi. This event opens up new opportunities for training high-quality healthcare human resources, contributes to improving healthcare service quality, and affirms Vietnam’s role within the global medical collaboration network.
