VNU and MISIS cooperate in quantum technology

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited and worked with the National University of Science and Technology MISIS (NUST MISIS) in Moscow on March 25 morning (local time) as part of his official visit to Russia.

During this visit of the Prime Minister, VNU and MISIS signed a cooperation agreement on high-quality human resource training, expert exchange, and the implementation of joint research in the field of quantum technology.

The cooperation agreement between Vietnam National University, Hanoi and National University of Science and Technology MISIS focuses on developing research and training in quantum technology, with a key priority on jointly establishing a Quantum Technology Center with the direct participation of leading research groups from MISIS. According to VNU Executive Vice President Nguyen Hieu, the two sides have agreed to promote cooperation in laboratory design, technology transfer, and research team development to ensure that the center is implemented in line with international standards.

VNU plans to review the research campus master plan and allocate additional space for quantum laboratories within the overall science center project, while working closely with MISIS experts in designing clean rooms, laboratories, and specialized technical infrastructure. MISIS representatives also expressed their readiness to participate in laboratory design and joint research activities, considering this a significant step toward building a long-term cooperation foundation between the two universities.

Rector Alevtina Chernikova stated that MISIS is prepared to cooperate with VNU in establishing a joint Quantum Technology Research Center, supporting quantum computing technology transfer, training specialists, and implementing joint research projects. She emphasized that MISIS has strong capabilities in materials science, quantum technology, and advanced technological fields, and expressed her expectation that the cooperation will produce concrete research outcomes and make practical contributions to Vietnam’s scientific and technological development.

The cooperation between VNU and MISIS was established following a working visit by VNU leadership to the Russian Federation in May 2025, during which the two sides signed a framework agreement on educational and research cooperation in advanced technological fields such as advanced materials, quantum technology, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, and renewable energy.

On this basis, several concrete cooperative activities have been implemented, ranging from sending VNU students to pursue master’s programs in quantum physics at MISIS to facilitating the placement of young lecturers and researchers in leading research groups at MISIS for academic and research collaboration.
