Development of undergraduate and graduate programs in accordance with international standards

Over the past year, the total enrollment across the VNU system reached nearly 87,000 learners, reflecting the strong attractiveness of an international-standard learning environment and the effectiveness of a development strategy that closely links education with research and innovation. The expansion in scale has been implemented in parallel with the restructuring of academic programs toward greater standardization, streamlining, and closer alignment with international benchmarks.

Instantly putting 3 pivotal resolutions into implementation, namely Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW, and Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW, which set out requirements for the development of high-quality human resources, particularly in science and technology, innovation, and modern governance, VNU has intensified its substantive internationalization of education and training. Key priorities include expanding EMI (English as a medium of instructions) programs, strengthening the integration of education with scientific research and innovation, and promoting learners’ participation in research groups, science and technology projects, and international academic networks.

Implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation, VNU focuses on developing international-standard education and training programs for high-quality human resources. Priority is given to basic sciences, semiconductor technology, microelectronics, engineering, and other key enabling technologies, with a strong emphasis on closely integrating education with scientific research and innovation.

At the undergraduate level, VNU promotes the development of EMI programs that integrate practical training, research activities, and project-based learning. This approach aims to cultivate graduates with a solid scientific foundation, interdisciplinary thinking, and strong international integration capabilities, meeting the demands of the knowledge-based economy and digital transformation.

At the graduate level, the internationalization of education and training is being implemented in a systematic and substantive manner. In 2025, VNU University of Medicine and Pharmacy officially launched its first four international master’s programs, including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, and Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. These programs are designed in accordance with international accreditation standards and are delivered entirely in English by a faculty of domestic and international lecturers and experts. In addition, basic Vietnamese language modules are offered to support international students in integrating into the academic environment in Vietnam.

Moreover, VNU continues to develop interdisciplinary programs aligned with international standards, notably the Global Development and Innovation (BGDI) program under the International Studies major at the VNU Vietnam Japan University, aiming to train young professionals with interdisciplinary knowledge in economics, technology, and public policy, and capacity to address sustainable development challenges in the context of globalization.

Through such development of undergraduate and graduate programs in line with international standards, VNU is gradually realizing its objective of training high-quality human resources with global competitiveness, thereby affirming its core role in implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW and contributing to the national agenda for science, technology, and innovation.
