According to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, VNU had two subject areas and twelve individual subjects ranked. Notably, 10 out of the 12 ranked subjects placed in the world’s top 500. Among these, five subjects were ranked for the first time, and five others advanced in their rankings.

The ranking results show that four subjects/subject areas from VNU placed in the word’s Top 400 and seven others in the Top 500.
VNU’s Engineering & Technology returned to Group 451-500 globally with one newly ranked subject and two others advanced in rank.
– Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering, ranked for six consecutive years since 2019, advanced to Group 401-450 globally, with its score increasing from 51.5 to 55.3 points.
- Electrical & Electronics Engineering also advanced to Group 401-450 globally with a score of 54.3 points.
- Chemical Engineering, ranked for the first time, featured in Group 401-450 globally.
- Computer Science & Information Systems, ranked for seven or six consecutive years since 2019, remained in Group 551-600 globally.
Natural Sciences subject area grew in both the number of ranked subjects and their ranks. Specifically, one subject newly ranked, one returned the rankings, and one advanced in its position.
- Mathematics, which has steadily improved in rank for six consecutive years, listed in Group 301-350 globally for the first time.
- Physics & Astronomy, ranked for 6 consecutive years since 2019, advanced in score and returned to Group 601-675 globally.
- Environmental Sciences, ranked for the first time, featured in Group 451-500 globally with an impressive citation score of 80 points.
Social Sciences & Management subject area saw the most significant advancement with a citation score of 84.7 points and featured in Group 501-550 globally with five subjects placed in the world’s Top 500, three of which ranked in the Top 400.
- Business & Management Studies moved up to Group 451-500 globally.
- Economics & Econometrics advanced to Group 401-450 globally.
- Sociology, ranked for the first time, featured in Group 301-375 globally. Notably, VNU was the only Vietnamese higher education institution ranked in this subject this year.
- Accounting & Finance, ranked for the first time, placed in Group 301-375 globally with a citation score of 86.2 points.
- Law & Legal Studies, ranked for the first time, entered Group 351-400 globally. Notably, VNU was also the only Vietnamese higher education institution ranked in this subject this year.
The QS WUR by subject 2025 evaluated universities across 5 indicators, including:

+ Employer reputation;
+ Research citations per paper;
+ H-index; and
+ International research network.
The QS ranking indicators emphasize a higher education institution’s contribution to and impact of a discipline/field’s training quality on society (through the assessment of scholars and employers); contributions to scientific research (through citations per paper and H-index); and internationalization of scientific research (through International research network).
