VNU and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation cooperate in research, training, and exchanges for sustainable development

On May 27, 2025, VNU Vice President Dao Thanh Truong and Mr. Stefan Mentschel, Regional Representative of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation (RLF) from the Federal Republic of Germany for Southeast Asia and Vietnam, signed a cooperation agreement between the two institutions.

Under the cooperation agreement, the two parties will jointly implement research programs, surveys, workshops, and policy symposiums focusing on public policy, governance, socio-ecological transformation, and socio-economic development strategies aligned with sustainable transformations.

A special focus of the collaboration is to promote expert, scholar, and researcher exchanges, creating opportunities for VNU faculty members, researchers, and students to access international academic networks and gain practical experience from the RLF’s experienced partners. Through these activities, the cooperation aims to strengthen policy analysis capabilities, critical thinking, and the capacity to implement community-oriented initiatives. All collaborative activities will be carried out based on the actual needs and strategic priorities of both sides, and will be formalized through specific project agreements or appropriate legal instruments.

In his remarks at the signing ceremony, VNU Vice President Dao Thanh Truong emphasized the significant importance of the cooperation agreement between VNU and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation as a new step in VNU’s strategy to strengthen international engagement in support of its sustainable development goals. He stressed that VNU highly valued partnerships with reputable academic and development organizations worldwide, particularly in the interdisciplinary fields that connect research, policy, and practice. The cooperation with RLF not only opens new academic spaces but also contributes to enhancing the research, training, and knowledge transfer capacities of VNU’s faculty, researchers, and students.

He hoped that this partnership would lead to the implementation of concrete and in-depth programs such as academic forums, expert exchanges, joint research projects, and support for public policy planning.

Mr. Stefan Mentschel expressed his appreciation and delight at the establishment of a partnership between RLF and one of Vietnam’s and the region’s leading universities. He emphasized that the signing of the cooperation agreement with VNU - a highly respected center for education and research, marked a strategically significant step for the Foundation in Vietnam. The partnership with VNU will further strengthen RLF’s academic reputation and standing within its intellectual network in Southeast Asia.

Notably, Mr. Mentschel also expressed his hope that the collaboration between the two sides would expand opportunities for expert and scholar exchanges, thereby not only fostering knowledge sharing but also generating policy initiatives with practical value for Vietnam and the region.
