VNU affirms its strategic commitment to excellence in the 456th AUN-QA external assessment

On July 8, 2025, VNU held the Opening Ceremony of the 456th AUN-QA Programme Assessment, conducted under the quality assurance framework of the ASEAN University Network (AUN-QA). This event not only marks an important milestone in the strategic cooperation between VNU and AUN-QA but also serves as a strong testament to VNU’s commitment to academic excellence and international integration as one of Vietnam’s leading research universities.

This assessment, taking place from July 8 to July 10, 2025, focuses on four key academic programs of the VNU University of Science, including: Bachelor’s Program in Computer and Information Science; Bachelor’s Program in Materials Science; Bachelor’s Program in Meteorology and Climate Science; Bachelor’s Program in Land Management.

In his opening remarks, VNU Vice President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong affirmed that this AUN-QA assessment marks a significant milestone in VNU’s ongoing journey to enhance educational quality. As a leading research university, VNU bears a national responsibility in nurturing talent, spearheading innovation, and pioneering higher education reform. VNU Vice President emphasized that this responsibility is intrinsically linked to a strong commitment to academic excellence, benchmarked against the highest international standards.

He stated: “We do not see this assessment merely as an examination, but as a valuable opportunity to reflect, evaluate, and improve quality.” The journey alongside AUN-QA, he noted, is a testament to VNU’s long-term strategic commitment.

To date, VNU has built a comprehensive quality assurance ecosystem, with 158 academic programs accredited, including 63 programs recognized by AUN-QA. “These impressive figures are not just signs of growth,” he said, “but also reflect our relentless pursuit of educational excellence and determination to reinforce VNU’s position in the region and globally.”

On behalf of the assessment team, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maria Elissa J. Lao expressed her deep appreciation for VNU's unwavering efforts and commitment to educational excellence. She affirmed that this AUN-QA assessment plays a crucial role in maintaining and further enhancing the university’s capacity to deliver top-quality academic programs to students.

As Head of the AUN-QA assessment team, Dr. Lao also shared recent developments of the organization, including its ongoing process for recognition by the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE), and strengthened cooperation with reputable partners such as NEAS (Australia). These advancements reflect a shared vision: both VNU and AUN-QA are on a continuous journey of growth and alignment with global standards.

“Academic excellence and the pursuit of improvement is a never-ending journey,” she emphasized, “and I am glad we are facing this journey together.” She extended her sincere gratitude to the VNU leadership, the management of the University of Science, and all units involved for their thorough preparation and warm hospitality.

Over the course of three days, the AUN-QA expert panel will conduct in-depth interviews with university leaders, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and employers. They will also visit facilities to gain a comprehensive understanding of the programs under review. The outcomes of this assessment will provide valuable recommendations, helping VNU identify its strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement-thereby further enhancing the competitiveness of its graduates in the global labor market.
