The “Visiting Professorship Program at VNU” aims to attract and effectively leverage the intellect and academic experience of outstanding scientists, experts, and reputable scholars from both Vietnam and abroad.
This will improve the quality of training, scientific research, knowledge transfer, and international integration at VNU, while also fostering the development of young lecturers and scientists, contributing to the implementation of VNU's Development Strategy for the 2026 - 2031 period.

Specific Objectives of the Program are to: Invite and appoint/recognize approximately 100 visiting professors during the 2026 – 2031 period; Strengthen teaching and academic capacity through teaching specialized courses; organizing seminars, roundtables, and training workshops for lecturers, students, graduate students, and doctoral candidates; Enhance scientific research and international publications through co-supervision, co-publication (WoS/Scopus); establish strong research groups, key laboratories, centers of excellence at the VNU level; develop significant scientific and technological tasks and projects. Visiting professors will serve as advisors, mentors, and companions in developing young faculty, graduate students, and PhD candidates; promote international academic culture at VNU.
A visiting professor at VNU is a special academic title appointed/recognized by the President of VNU, working on a concurrent or part-time basis, performing teaching, research, or knowledge transfer at VNU’s member units. Work can be carried out in-person or online, depending on the cooperation needs.
Eligible individuals include those who have been conferred the title of Professor or Associate Professor by reputable domestic or international higher education institutions or research institutes, or are recognized experts, scientists, or managers with outstanding achievements in research, teaching, or science management, currently working at universities, research institutes, international organizations, or technology corporations within or outside Vietnam; and who wish to contribute to the development of higher education, science and technology, and innovation at VNU and in Vietnam.
A visiting professor at VNU can participate in the development and enhancement of high-quality, advanced, and talented academic programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels, focusing on VNU’s priority fields. He/She can also organize training sessions and share modern teaching methods, integrated technologies, and practical experience to improve learning and teaching quality across the system; Deliver specialized courses or short-term classes (e.g., workshops, seminars, special topics) in person or online to convey advanced knowledge and new technological trends to faculty, students, graduate students, and doctoral candidates; Co-supervise and advise research for VNU doctoral candidates, graduate students, and talented undergraduates.
In Research and Innovation, a visiting professor can propose, lead or co-lead, and participate in implementing key, interdisciplinary, core, or strategic technology research programs to address urgent development challenges in Vietnam and the region. They can collaborate on publishing high-quality scientific papers in reputable international journals and conferences together with VNU faculty and scientists; develop research directions with high practical applicability and transferability; assist in registering patents, utility solutions, especially international patents. In addition, they can contribute to the development of strong research groups, key labs, centers of excellence, innovation hubs, technology incubators, and entrepreneurship programs at VNU; mentor students, graduate students, PhD candidates, and lecturers in innovation, start-ups; develop practical training materials and startup courses.

As a visiting professor, he/she can support development of strategic partnerships with leading universities and research institutes globally; connect with businesses and governmental or non-governmental organizations. Moreover, he/she can promote and participate in signing international cooperation agreements; expand opportunities for academic exchange, scholarships, research, and internships. In National and International Cooperation and Community Engagement, he/she can also: Co-organize or participate in organizing international conferences and interdisciplinary academic forums at VNU; Advise and co-implement community-oriented research and innovation programs that address sustainable development challenges, especially in areas affected by climate change or lacking development opportunities; Provide feedback and consultation for educational, scientific, technological, innovation, and socio-economic policies at institutional and national levels; Inspire, interact, and provide career guidance for students, graduate students, and PhD candidates on research, innovation, and international integration.

A selection committee established by the VNU President will assess applications based on qualifications, experience, and potential contributions.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview (in person or online).
The VNU President signs the appointment/recognition decision for eligible candidates. The appointment term is between 1 and 5 years and may be extended based on periodic evaluation. In exceptional cases, candidates with outstanding contributions and recommendation by reputable scientists may be specially appointed/recognized, without age limit or the full procedure.
