Award ceremony for 3rd International Russian Language Olympiad

The awards ceremony for the 3rd International Russian Language Olympiad for Vietnamese students was held in Ha Noi on December 2, with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training of Viet Nam, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Director of the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute, and a large number of students, teachers from schools with participating contestants.

The International Russian Language Olympiad for Vietnamese students is organised by the Pushkin Sub-Institute under the Department of International Cooperation, in collaboration with the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute (Russian Federation), with support from the Ministry of Education and Training of Viet Nam and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

The Olympiad helps promote the Russian language, enhances learning motivation and encourages study opportunities in the Russian Federation. Winners will have the chance to receive scholarships for a “Summer Language Internship” in Moscow. The 2025 Olympiad attracted more than 700 contestants from many provinces and cities nationwide, reflecting the increasing appeal of the Russian language among the young generation of Viet Nam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Tien Dung, Deputy Head of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Training of Viet Nam, emphasised that the event not only honoured the outstanding achievements of students and teachers, but also demonstrated the strong traditional friendship between Viet Nam and the Russian Federation, nurtured over many generations through profound educational cooperation.

Sharing at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Mogilevsky Konstantin Ilyich noted that many Vietnamese alumni who previously studied in the Soviet Union (the Russian Federation today) have attained high positions and success in their fields.

He affirmed that Russian universities are ready to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese students to become highly qualified specialists in their chosen fields. In May 2025, the two sides signed an agreement to establish the Pushkin Russian Language Centre in Viet Nam, and the Russian side will continue strengthening its lecturers, programmes and educational activities at the centre.

For his part, Nikita Vladimirovich Gusev, Head of the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute, expressed delight at the scale and quality of this year’s Olympiad. He released that in the framework of the final round of the 3rd International Russian Language Olympiad for Vietnamese students, the organising committee held workshops on modern teaching methods for Vietnamese teachers, contributing to improving the teaching and learning quality of Russian.

Expressing the honour as the first-prize winner of the 3rd International Russian Language Olympiad for Vietnamese students, Phan Le Kim Chi, a first-year student at the University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS) – Viet Nam National University, Ha Noi, shared that her love for the Russian language came from her family, and her achievement today is thanks to the support of her lecturers at ULIS. She said the competition is an important turning point that helps me gain more confidence in pursuing my dream of becoming a Russian teacher, continuing to pass on my passion to the future generation.
