Enhancing the quality of VNU’s undergraduate and graduate training closely linked with scientific research

The year 2025 marked a clear turning point in VNU’s renewing its training model in close connection with high-level research. At both undergraduate and graduate levels, VNU continued to develop talent-oriented and high-quality academic programs aligned with international standards; expand English-medium instruction; and strengthen the linkage between training, scientific research, and innovation.

Over the past year, VNU has organized admissions for 162 undergraduate programs, 160 master’s programs, and 116 doctoral programs. In implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, VNU restructured its training orientation, prioritizing the development of human resources in basic sciences and engineering–technology fields, particularly semiconductors, microchips, and other key technologies. VNU adjusted its training structure toward an increase in STEM fields, while also developing interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral programs to leverage the combined strengths of member universities, research institutes, and key laboratories. The restructuring of the program system has been carried out in a streamlined manner, reducing overlap and clearly identifying core basic science disciplines aligned with the traditions and strengths of each unit, as well as with the overall priority directions of VNU.

In addition, VNU has set high quality requirements for training programs designed to adapt to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Accordingly, newly launched programs are to ensure a minimum foreign language learning outcome equivalent to Level 4/6 under the Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam, with at least 30% of courses delivered in a foreign language, and undergo international accreditation after the first cohort graduation. This approach aims to ensure that graduates possess strong international integration capability to directly participate in global technology value chains.

Alongside a stable overall enrollment scale, VNU has accelerated the expansion of graduate education, particularly doctoral training closely linked with strong research groups and key laboratories. To further strengthen the integration of research and training, VNU is implementing a system of key science and technology programs, creating a solid foundation for its research groups to directly engage in the training of high-level human resources and to address major national challenges.
