The attraction and exchange of international students continue to be identified by VNU as a key component of its strategy for the internationalization of education, contributing to the development of a multicultural academic environment and enhancing learners’ international integration capacity and global learning experiences.
In addition to efforts to attract international students at VNU, outbound student exchange programs continued to be actively promoted. In 2025, 83 VNU students were sent to study or participate in exchange programs for one semester or one academic year at partner universities in the Russian Federation, Japan, the Republic of Korea, China, France, and several other countries under bilateral and multilateral cooperation agreements. These exchange activities were supported by an increasingly robust international partnership network, together with effective coordination mechanisms among training units, VNU Department of Cooperation and Development, and overseas partners. Through such programs, VNU’s students gain access to international academic environments, enhance their foreign language proficiency, intercultural skills, and adaptability in the context of the globalization of higher education.
In parallel with the expansion of international student attraction and exchange, VNU has continued to strengthen its learner support system in a coordinated and student-centered manner. International students studying at VNU are provided with on-campus accommodation, assistance with enrollment and residency procedures, and access to digitalized services supporting learning, daily life, and student management. Student dormitories are being progressively upgraded in line with green, safe, and student-friendly models. In addition to academic and living conditions, member and affiliated institutions such as VNU University of Languages and International Studies, VNU University of Economics and Business, VNU International School, and VNU School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts have actively promoted cultural exchange activities, academic events, and experiential learning, thereby fostering a multicultural, open, and highly interactive learning environment. Notably, the development of the Hoa Lac Campus, with its integrated infrastructure, concentrated spaces for learning, research, and living, and large-scale dormitory system, has created favorable conditions for international students to enjoy a modern, safe, and welcoming study experience that contributed to enhancing VNU’s image as one of Vietnam’s leading and most reputable international education destinations.
VNU also welcomed 667 international staff members and experts for work assignments, research collaboration, teaching, and short-term exchange activities. In terms of programs managed at the VNU level alone, hundreds of staff members and lecturers were sent abroad to participate in training, professional development, and capacity-building programs in management, teaching, and scientific research in countries such as the Russian Federation, India, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, China, and others. In addition, VNU’s units dispatched hundreds of staff and lecturers to engage in academic and scientific exchanges, cultural exchange activities, research collaboration, teaching, study, and capacity-building programs at partner institutions overseas.

VNU identifies the development of faculty and staff capacity in an international environment as a key pillar for enhancing the quality of education and training, scientific research, and the overall international integration capacity of the entire system. On this basis, VNU has implemented a comprehensive set of programs, schemes, and mechanisms to strengthen professional expertise, foreign language proficiency, international pedagogical methods, and research capacity among lecturers, researchers, and managerial staff.
Under the Project “Enhancing Teaching and Scientific Research Capacity in an International Environment through 2030”, during the 2024-2025 period, VNU aims to send 100 lecturers and researchers to participate in teaching, research, and academic exchange activities at overseas education and research institutions. In the 2026-2030 period, this number is expected to increase to 300, thereby gradually forming a cohort of scientists and research groups with advanced regional and international standing.
By 2025, VNU had a total of 5,563 staff members, including 3,084 academic staff, comprising 2,819 lecturers and 265 full-time researchers. The proportion of lecturers holding doctoral degrees reached 64.3%; the proportion of academic staff with doctoral or doctor of science degrees was 61%; and 22.1% of full-time lecturers held the academic titles of professor or associate professor. Across the entire VNU system, there are currently 631 professors and associate professors, and 1,881 holders of doctoral or Doctor of Science degrees, reflecting a strong scientific human resource base.
VNU also places strong emphasis on enhancing the international capacity of its managerial staff, thereby fostering an integrated academic human resource ecosystem and strengthening VNU’s position within the regional and global higher education landscape.
