The University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS), Vietnam National University (VNU), Hanoi operates a streamlined organizational structure comprising functional, academic, and support units, ensuring the effective implementation of all university activities.
Organizational Structure:
Functional Offices (6 units): serving advisory, management, and administrative roles across key areas of the University, including
- Office of Academic and Student Affairs

• Academic Faculties (11units): Serving as the core force in teaching and research, including faculties of language and culture (English, Russian, French, Chinese, German, Japanese, Korean, and Arabic), as well as interdisciplinary training units such as Psychology and Liberal Education, Faculty of Vietnamese & Southeast Asian Language and Culture and the Faculty of International Education.
• Schools (2 units): Including Foreign Language Specialized School and ULIS Middle School contributing to the development of an integrated education ecosystem that identifies and nurtures foreign language competencies from an early stage.
• Office of Party and Mass Organizations (1 unit): managing socio-political organizations such as the Party Committee, Trade Union, Youth Union, Student Associations, Former-ULISer Asociation, and Alumni Network, thereby contributing to a comprehensive educational environment.
ULIS’s operations are guided and overseen by Party Committee, Governing Board, the Quality Assurance Council, and the Research Council, forming a synchronized, modern, and effective governance system.

Research, Science and Technology
Scientific research and innovation are key pillars in the development strategy of ULIS. Research activities are actively promoted across a wide range of fields, including linguistics, foreign language education, international studies, and related social sciences, with a strong focus on addressing real-world challenges.
ULIS places great emphasis on developing a comprehensive research ecosystem with the active participation of both lecturers and students. This is demonstrated through numerous research projects, national and international conferences, academic forums, and innovation initiatives. Many valuable research outputs—such as monographs, textbooks, teaching materials, and technological solutions for language teaching and learning-have been effectively developed and widely applied.
In addition, ULIS actively promotes entrepreneurship and innovation among pupils and students through various programs, competitions, and innovation projects. These initiatives contribute to fostering research capacity, critical thinking, and the ability to generate new knowledge. The achievements in these areas have further affirmed the University’s position as a reputable research center in the field of languages and foreign language education in Vietnam.
Cooperation & Development
ULIS has been building and expanding an extensive cooperation network with over 200 partners both domestically and internationally, including universities, educational organizations, enterprises, and governmental agencies. These collaborations focus on training, scientific research, academic exchange, program development, and enhancing learners’ competencies.
ULIS is currently implementing a wide range of international cooperation activities, including student and faculty exchanges, academic conferences and events, and cultural exchange programs. These efforts contribute to strengthening international integration and improving the quality of education. At the same time, ULIS actively participates in national initiatives such as the National Foreign Language Project, teacher training programs, and activities aimed at enhancing foreign language proficiency for local communities.
Beyond the classroom, ULIS’s cooperative activities have a strong societal impact through training programs for officials, the organization of international events, language support for diplomatic activities, and community development initiatives. Through these efforts, ULIS continues to affirm its role as a leading hub for connecting and disseminating linguistic knowledge nationwide.
