Training course for Vietnamese language teachers abroad opens

The annual Training Course on Teaching Vietnamese for Overseas Vietnamese Teachers is organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-USSH), Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH). This initiative aims to promote the preservation of Vietnamese language and culture globally.

In 2024, the Training Course on Teaching Vietnamese for Overseas Vietnamese Teachers is held from December 1 to December 15 in Hanoi and several northern provinces. This year, it welcomes more than 40 teachers from nine countries and territories for in-person training in Vietnam. These educators are dedicated to preserving and passing down Vietnamese cultural and linguistic values to younger generations and Vietnamese communities abroad.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Manh Dong, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, noted that the training program has garnered enthusiastic participation from teachers and volunteers across many countries over the years. This reflects the high demand for teaching and learning Vietnamese among overseas communities. Launched in 2013, the program has drawn nearly 900 overseas Vietnamese teachers over 11 years, significantly contributing to the development of Vietnamese teaching and learning abroad.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Dong emphasized that language is the soul of the nation, a bridge connecting generations of Vietnamese people worldwide. He reiterated the communist party and State's deep commitment to preserving and promoting cultural and linguistic heritage among overseas Vietnamese communities. Resolution 36-NQ/TW of the Politburo has served as a guiding principle in supporting overseas communities in maintaining their cultural identity and language.

In August 2022, the Prime Minister approved the "Vietnamese Language Appreciation Day in Overseas Vietnamese Communities (2022-2030)" project. The initiative has received widespread support, with vibrant and meaningful activities that have fostered significant progress in promoting Vietnamese teaching and learning abroad.

Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of VNU-USSH, affirmed the university's dedication to fulfilling its mission in line with the Party and Government's policies on cultural preservation. With expertise, responsibility, and a rich tradition of excellence, the university is committed to delivering high-quality training experiences for participants.

The 2024 training course combines the university's prestige with its faculty's teaching expertise and passion, aiming to provide practical tools and inspire a love for Vietnamese language and culture among overseas educators.

This year's course introduces a new format, with two-thirds of the curriculum focusing on practical teaching scenarios. Participants will be equipped with effective Vietnamese teaching methods, observe lessons at local primary schools, and gain insights into Vietnamese culture and history through field trips to historical sites in Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Ha Nam, and Bac Ninh.

The program's instructors, selected from VNU-USSH’s Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language faculty, are leading experts trained domestically and internationally. These educators also play key roles in the national project "Enhancing Online Vietnamese Language Teaching for Overseas Vietnamese," which launched in 2022 and now serves hundreds of participants across 25 countries annually.
